Assistant Librarian for Research and Instruction


The Knox College Library invites applications from service-oriented and innovative professional

librarians for a full-time staff position promoting undergraduate learning outcomes through active liaison relationships with selected academic programs; service on reference and instruction teams; and coordination of assessment initiatives with the library’s professional staff. Duties and responsibilities: The successful candidate will advance the library’s instructional and information literacy initiatives by applying and promoting innovative teaching methods and technologies; by coordinating outreach, orientation, and general instruction programs; and by managing instructional publications and documents in print and digital formats.


As a member of the reference, instruction & liaison teams, will provide both reference and research assistance to the Knox campus (including evening and weekend rotations) and advanced reference, instruction and liaison services to faculty and students for assigned academic departments.  As a member of the library’s professional staff, will also participate in planning and assessing public service initiatives and library collections.


Required: an ALA accredited MLS; experience in or professional knowledge of library instruction and information literacy; demonstrated instruction and presentation skills; commitment to user services, and ability to work effectively with groups; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively with library colleagues, faculty, and other academic support staff. Preferred: knowledge of library assessment methods and tools, working knowledge of a European or East Asian language.
