Job Specifications/Position Qualifications (minimum)
 

Knowledge of librarianship and best practices, skilled instructor, actively seeking innovative ideas related to information literacy/fluency instruction and pedagogy. Excellent collaborative skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Coordinate and provide strategic guidance for the overall activities of the library’s instruction and outreach efforts. Support students at all levels in understanding information literacy through curriculum development, instructional design, and outcomes assessment. Advance learning on campus with the development of a multi-faceted instruction program. Collaborate with staff who provide a full range of reference services, research consultation, and instruction to all patrons.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

Play a major role in designing and teaching in-person library research instruction to equip students with information literacy skills.
Develop and teach the formal, semester-long Academic Research and Critical Thinking credit course.
Steer the overarching direction of reference and research services, and provide reference and research consultation to faculty, students, staff, and community patrons.
Share expertise around instructional methods and the scholarship of teaching and learning with colleagues. Coordinate and mentor other librarians in the use of effective pedagogical methods.
Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, programs, and campus partners to develop students’ information literacy skills.
Prepare and implement assessment strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of library instruction on student learning and use the results to develop and strengthen the instruction program.
Create and update teaching materials, reusable learning objects, and tools in support of instruction and research needs.
Advance student engagement with the library.
Contribute to and participate in outreach events to effectively communicate and promote library instruction, services and resources.
Contribute to collection development activities.
Participate in the intellectual life of the University and the profession of librarianship, and keep current with new teaching, learning and technology movements and examine their applicability to library services.

Judgment Required Performance of the essential duties of this position is dependent upon independent ingenuity and developmental efforts.
Budgetary Responsibility Analyzes budgetary data and develops budget proposals.

Education

ALA accredited Master’s in Library or Information Science or equivalent

Experience

1-3 years
