Special Collections Digital Archivist

As a member of the Technical Services unit within Special Collections, Smith College Libraries, the Digital Archivist will provide practical implementation, expertise, and leadership in areas related to born-digital and digitized collection materials. The Digital Archivist will carry out specialized activities related to digital collections, and will provide ongoing training and oversight to others in the department who will carry out some of these activities as well.  We are committed to an expansion of pre-custodial community collaboration, ethical and transparent work with all stakeholders. Smith College Special Collections is still developing better digital content management protocols. We’re looking for candidates who are generative, can move processes forward, can ask for help when needed, and are eager to help strengthen our culture of digital stewardship in the department. Head of Special Collections Technical Services

Smith College Special Collections seeks a dynamic leader for Head of Special Collections Technical Services. The successful candidate will be a colleague who has a vision for modern archival and rare books practice, and who is eager to join a community of similarly-driven practitioners. The new Head of Special Collections Technical Services should have interest and ability to work in a complex, high-profile, program-driven environment, and who will think critically about collection management across material types, and services through a user-centered lens. Smith College Special Collections comprises three unique repositories: the Smith College Archives, the Mortimer Rare Book Collection, and the Sophia Smith Collection of Women’s History. The facilities are state of the art and collections well managed, especially after the completion of a major collections project (Access to Collections 1) in 2021. However, there are still opportunities to grow programmatically and systematically in ways that achieve our goals and meets our departmental mission, particularly around access, description, and digital content management. Anticipated salary range: $78,000 - $90,000.
