Public Access to Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Publications Based on Federally Funded Research

In response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Request for Information on public access to peer-reviewed scholarly publications resulting from federally-funded research, the Oberlin Group submitted comments on behalf of the 80 members. With the threat of the Research Works Act (HR3699) possibly turning back the progress made by the NIH mandate, this is a critical time for libraries to respond and advocate for more access, not less. Open letter from liberal arts college presidents supporting the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2009:

As liberal arts college presidents, we are writing to express our strong support for S. 1373, the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2009, which has been introduced into the U.S. Senate by Senators Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX). This bill would require federal agencies whose external research budgets exceed $100 million to develop policies that would ensure public access via the Internet to their funded
