Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Services, the STEM and Data Education Librarian will provide leadership in establishing partnerships and services that facilitate meaningful user engagement.
 
The Librarian will provide education, support, and collection development for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) resources, data discovery, and management of data, including data management planning, data sharing, and long-term data stewardship.
 
The Librarian will support undergraduate and graduate academic programs, as well as high impact research initiatives in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Neuroscience & Behavior, Physics, and the IDEAS program (Integrated Design, Engineering & Applied Sciences).
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Work with STEM departments and programs to align collections, instruction, reference, and research support with the evolving needs of students and faculty
  • Provide in-person and online library instruction, and offer general reference and research support
  • Provide support, advisement, and instruction in research data management best practices
  • Collaborate with library and campus colleagues on initiatives that support the success of Wesleyan students and faculty
  • Engage with members of the Wesleyan community and beyond to share information and identify opportunities for complementary or interconnected services
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes in academic public services
  • Engage with professional organizations to learn and share knowledge
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in a STEM discipline and/or library/information science and at least 2 years’ experience working with science or research data or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated expertise using resources in STEM, including databases and journals
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research life cycle, from data creation to organization, accessibility, distribution, and archiving
  • A demonstrated inquisitiveness and enthusiasm for science education and research
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective in-person and online instructional methods
  • Effective networking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated service orientation and creativity within an academic environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Doctorate preferably in a STEM field
  • Experience working in an academic library
  • Experience working in library public services, including general face-to-face and online reference and consultative work
  • Experience teaching library instruction using information literacy concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to establish services in partnership with academic and/or administrative departments
  • Knowledge and understanding of how pedagogical innovations, technology, and scholarly information are impacting library services, collections, and physical spaces
  • Demonstrated understanding of scholarly communication trends, funder requirements, open access, institutional repositories, and research impact measures
  • Understanding of pedagogical methods, learning outcomes, and assessment in support of teaching and learning
