Special Collections Public Services Archivist


The Special Collections Public Services Archivist is an important member of a high profile, busy, team-oriented academic special collections department committed to providing an excellent, inclusive, scholarly, and effective public services program at Smith College. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the operations of the Special Collections in-person research service point; a robust undergraduate student assistant program; and the logistics of the Special Collections instruction program. The Public Services Archivist also will be responsible for in-person reference service for rare books and archival material, from reference desk shifts to conducting in depth reference interviews. The aim of the Special Collections public services program is to foster an open, creative, thoughtful, and anti-oppressive environment. This program maintains a supportive and welcoming environment to conduct research; actively seeks to lower and remove barriers to the discovery and access of materials; promotes collections and the people who created those records in an ethical manner; and regularly engages in program assessment and modification towards improvement and greater effectiveness. Anticipated salary range: $58,000 - $62,000.
